Schedule for Friday, January 22nd

Hard to believe it is already Friday. You can click HERE for Friday's schedule.  See you all bright and early at 8 am!

Schedule for Thursday, January 21st

Another successful day of learning online! Just a quick reminder to use the Raise Hand feature in Google Meet if you have a question. It is not fair to your classmates if you have a question and you just turn your mic on to ask the question while they are putting up their hand. If you no longer have a question, please use the Lower Hand feature to lower your hand as well.

I am posting tomorrow's schedule HERE and also ask that at 9:30 the students log out of Google Meet and then log back in for music at no earlier than 9:40.  Music will run from 9:40 until 10:10 when students can log back out and then log back in at 10:15. I am hoping this may eliminate some of the problems we had today. Have a great evening and see you bright and early at 8 am tomorrow. I told the students they could dress wearing their favourite / crazy looking hat or hair for tomorrow's classes.

Thanks to all the students and parents for a fairly smooth transition back into online learning for this week and next. I will post tomorrow's schedule HERE and also ask that at 9:30 the students log out of Google Meet and then log back in for music at no earlier than 9:40.  Music will run from 9:40 until 10:10 when students can log back out and then log back in at 10:15. I am hoping this may eliminate some of the problems we had today. For French, the students will need to log off at 1:00 and then log back on exactly at 1:10 and then they will have their French lesson taught by Mr. Jamroziak.  Have a great evening and see you bright and early at 8 am tomorrow. I told the students they could dress wearing their favourite colour.

Hello Room 17! Tuesday we will be back to online learning starting at 8:00 am. The schedule and information about the day's activities and lessons will be posted HERE as it was previously for the students during the first week back in January. I will be updating the schedule and activities on a daily basis from Tuesday, January 19th until Thursday, January 28th.

Please make sure your child has a quiet area to work in and I have sent home their magic number books for math, Writing books, Science and Social Studies books to work from. If need be, please ensure they have another booklet or paper they can use for additional math activities we will be doing over the next two weeks or if you can print off any necessary pages that I add to the daily activities.

Thank you and we can get through this together. Go Room 17!👍

 Thank you!

Room 17 thank you very much for your efforts this week with our online learning! As I said to you before we signed off, you did an excellent job being respectful digital citizens within our Google Meet sessions. You made sure to mute your mikes when others were talking and to be patient when others were sharing their writing or ideas. During the presenting time or teacher instructional time, you listened and asked your questions at the end when it was appropriate to do so.

We will be returning to in class instruction next Monday. I want to remind you to wear your formal uniforms, bring two masks to school and return all your writing, math and science activities you did this week during online teaching to the classroom. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing all of your Monday morning!

A last note: if you are interested in finishing up the Snowman math activity, I have included the document HERE and you are welcome to print it off and finish your snowman and the math question about what your snowman costs to build.

 IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Hello and Happy New Year to all of you! I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and are ready to get back into the swing of school work. However, for this first week, rather than meeting in person, we will be meeting via Google Meet starting Tuesday morning at 8:00am! Remember our Google Meet code and I will be posting the week's schedule HERE for you to see how each day's schedule is set up.  Please remember to be on time tomorrow morning and please do not enter the Google Meet early. Finally, please mute your microphones once you log on to the session in the morning!

 November 30th - December 3rd

Happy Friday to all the students of Room 17! I hope that you will all be able to get outside this weekend and enjoy some unseasonably warm weather activities!

In Writing, we focused on descriptive writing about a "elf" friend of ours. The students keep working on using descriptive language that paints a picture for the reader through the use of Triple Scoop adjectives, similes and their 6 senses to describe the elf.  Next week, we will start to create a writing piece about someone special to the students.

In Math, we continue to explore adding two digit numbers and using our hundreds chart to help us when adding 10 to a number (next number down in the column) or adding ones (move to the right in the row of numbers). Students are still looking at various ways to represent a number and building up their number sense to see patterns when skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.

In Science, we are looking at various ways that magnets are used in our everyday lives at home and in the world of medicine with an MRI machine and its ability to take pictures of the soft tissue parts of our bodies.  We have discussed the magnet's abilities to repel or attract to other magnets based on the poles that are being put together.

In Social Studies we are exploring the village of Meteghan in Nova Scotia and the original settlers of the area which included the Mik'maq First Nations group, the Acadians who brought their French culture to the area and the British who also influenced the region too.  We spent time practicing our French greetings and being able to talk about going lobster fishing!

A couple of reminders that Monday students need to be in the formal uniform as we will be preparing some parts for our January assembly on Responsibility.  Please remember to also look at the important dates for the rest of December and a reminder that for the first week back we will be teaching online to the students. Have a wonderful weekend and see everyone on Monday!
