March 28th - April 1st

Welcome back after the spring break to room 5 students! I hope you all had the opportunity to get out and enjoy some fresh air and some quality time with family and friends!

In Mathematics, we continue to talk about fractions as parts of a whole and what each part of the fraction means. We also are looking at passage of time and how different events are measured. Students continue to work on representing three digit numbers in various ways too.

In Writing, we have begun to explore great beginnings and the importance of starting your writing piece off with a good impression for the reader. We talked about using action, dialogue, sound effects or a thought or question in the mind of the main character. We will continue to practice these as they are very key components when writing a climbing story.

In Science, we are wrapping up our Hearing and Sound unit and looking at sound waves, pleasant versus unpleasant sounds and how we can protect our ears from loud sounds to prevent hearing loss. The next unit will focus on design and building of structures.

In Social Studies, we have talked about government, leaders and the role of the government at the civic, provincial and federal levels. We are learning how each level of government has certain responsibilities and then we will be moving on to explore the governments found in our four countries we study and how it effects people's quality of life.

Next week, we will be busy in our music classes preparing for the upcoming Willy Wonka performance that will be happening on the night of April 21st. Please ensure that you remember to wear your formal uniforms tomorrow to school.  Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
