Last week of February 2021

Hello Room 17! I hope you are able to get outside this weekend and have some fun and time with your families.

It has been a full week with the students putting their finishing touches on their How to instructional posters and they look amazing! The students made sure to add in a bold title, a list of materials, the steps to use with pictures and finally a tip on how to make the product or experience better. As we move in to next week, the students will be doing a final instructional piece on the steps they take before getting ready for bed.

In Mathematics, we continue to explore adding and subtracting of two digit numbers, with and without regrouping or borrowing. Most students have found a strategy or two that works for them in finding the correct sum or difference and can explain how they got their answers. We have also explored bar graphs and answering questions about the graph and representing numbers in many ways.

In Science, we are wrapping up our unit on Hot and Cold Temperatures and the students had a chance to test out their insulating devices in class on Friday. They were all given an ice cube which they placed in their devices and most were very successful in choosing materials that would help the ice cube from melting. Our next unit will be exploring Liquids.

In Social Studies, we have looked at the culture of the Ukrainians in Saskatoon, the Inuit of Iqaluit and now, the Acadians of Meteghan. Each community has a unique flavour with different languages, music, dance, foods and clothing. We will also be exploring their folktales and stories that make up their past and are shared with future generations

Hope you enjoy your Sunday. A reminder that Monday is formal uniforms and please ensure your child has appropriate gym shoes that can be used for Physical Education indoors.
